Auditions for the Kalamazoo Junior Symphony Orchestra’s
2008-2009 70th Anniversary season will take place on Tuesday, May
6 and Wednesday, May 7, 2008, at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church,
1747 W. Milham Road in Portage. We will have openings in virtually
every section. Auditioning students will be required to play a
solo piece of their choice or they can substitute 3-4 standard
orchestral excerpts for the solo piece. They will also be asked
to sight-read. Students who are unsure if an excerpt is within
the standard orchestral repertoire or are interested in learning
more about the audition process can feel free to contact the KJSO’s

Audition Requirements
Auditions for PSO are six minutes in length. Auditioning students
will be required to:
- Play a solo of their choice
- Sight read
- Scales: All students should be prepared to play
any two scales of their own choosing. Scales must be memorized.

regarding audition requirements.
Symphonic strings: violins, violas and cellos
must play three octave scales; string bass plays two octave scales.
Please note that playing a three octave scale does not guarantee
placement in the Symphonic Strings
Concert orchestra: violins, violas and cellos
must play two octave scales (absolutely no one octave scales
accepted!); string bass plays one two octave and another one
octave scale of their choice.
