Auditions

Kalamazoo Junior Symphony Orchestra auditions will be held on Tuesday, May 5 & Wednesday, May 6. Audition requirements include performing a solo work which demonstrates a range of techniques AND/OR standard orchestral excerpts and sightreading. Scales may be asked as well in accordance with MSBOA Proficiency Level 1. Please email Andrew Koehler if you have any questions about the audition requirements at koehlerandrew@yahoo.com.

Prep String Orchestra auditions will be held on Monday, May 11 & Tuesday, May 12. Auditions are six minutes in length. Auditioning students will be required to:

Play a solo of their choice
Sight read
Scales: All students should be prepared to play any two scales of their own choosing. Scales must be memorized.

Symphonic strings: violins, violas and cellos must play three octave scales; string bass plays two octave scales. Please note that playing a three octave scale does not guarantee placement in the Symphonic Strings.

Concert orchestra: violins, violas and cellos must play two octave scales (absolutely no one octave scales accepted!); string bass plays one two octave and another one octave scale of their choice.
